When music meets images: SUONOIMMAGINE | EstOvest Festival at Polo del ’900

How does the role of music change when it encounters new listening contexts, new languages and new forms of creative production?
This question was at the heart of SUONOIMMAGINE | EstOvest Festival, the new project conceived by Claudio Pasceri and Francesco Cerrato in collaboration with Fondazione Istituto Piemontese Antonio Gramsci.

SUONOIMMAGINE | EstOvest FestivalOn June 26, 2026, at the Auditorium | Palazzo San Daniele | Polo del ’900 in Turin, the panel “SUONOIMMAGINE. Il Viaggio della Musica tra epoche, esigenze e declinazioni dell’ascolto” brought together different voices and perspectives around the relationship between music, image, music publishing, innovation and audiovisual creation.

The panel featured Pietro Giola, CEO of Machiavelli Music, Francesco Cerrato, violinist and composer, Augusto Buscaglia, economist and President of EstOvest Festival, Matteo D’Ambrosio, Director of Fondazione Istituto Piemontese Antonio Gramsci, and Claudio Pasceri, cellist and Artistic Director of EstOvest Festival.

The discussion focused on some of the most relevant questions for today’s music sector: what does music need today? How can musical creation come to life, circulate and reach new listening contexts? How can music interact with digital innovation, music publishing, entrepreneurial paths and the audiovisual industry?

The panel explored music as a language capable of moving across different eras, formats and creative destinations. It addressed music publishing as a space for value, protection and long-term development. It also highlighted synchronization as a concrete opportunity to extend the life of musical works, bringing them into films, documentaries, commercials, branded content and new audiovisual productions.

The SUONOIMMAGINE project aims to develop a form of “musical tailoring” for audiovisual creation: a path where music preserves its artistic identity while being carefully contextualized and guided towards new forms of use and listening.

SUONOIMMAGINE | EstOvest FestivalWithin this framework, Machiavelli Music contributed its perspective on the role of music publishing and synchronization in creating new opportunities for composers, catalogues and creative production professionals. This is especially relevant for contemporary classical music, which can find in audiovisual productions not only a channel for dissemination, but also a true space for dialogue with images, stories and diverse audiences.

The event also featured Fabio Vacchi as guest of honour, with a dedicated section on his music, artistic encounters and long-standing collaboration with filmmaker Ermanno Olmi. This offered another meaningful perspective on the relationship between music and cinema, where music is not simply an accompaniment to images, but a living element within the narrative.

SUONOIMMAGINE offered an opportunity to reflect on music as a creative, editorial and professional resource: a language able to connect different worlds, from composition to production, from live listening to audiovisual media, from artistic research to the evolving needs of the market.
