In music, a "cover" of a famous song is a new recording of an existing song, performed by an artist different from the original. The cover is made with the aim of reproducing the original song as faithfully as possible, keeping the harmonic and melodic structure and the same vocal line. It often happens that we hear better covers than the original, or have covers that meet with more success than the original song!

In synchronization, using a cover may be preferable to using the original for cost issues. In fact, using a cover allows you to pay only for editorial rights, i.e., the right to use the musical composition, without having to pay the cost of master rights, i.e., the right to use the original recording of the song.

This means that using a cover instead of the original can result in significant savings on music synchronization costs for a video, without compromising the musical quality of the final work.

However, it is important to note that there may be some limitations to using a cover, such as in cases where the original has distinctive elements that cannot be reproduced in the cover or where the original artist has not given permission for the creation of a cover of his or her song.

In addition to the cost factor, using a cover of a famous song can naturally also impact the user's experience of watching the video. The recognizability of the music may distract the viewer's attention from the content of the video, making the overall experience less memorable. In fact, the use of a well-known song might evoke preexisting associations in the viewer's mind that may not be in line with the message or tone of the video. In addition, if the original song is particularly iconic or related to a particular image or scene, the use of a cover may not have the same emotional impact. In that case, it may be preferable to choose original music that better fits the scene and evokes unique and memorable emotions.

Using a song "reinterpreted" or "in the style of" could be a good alternative to using a cover or original song.
A reinterpretation of a well-known song can maintain the recognizability of the melody, but at the same time offer a new interpretation of it through the use of new instruments, arrangements, or musical styles. In this way, a familiar yet fresh and original feel can be created.
Similarly, a song "in the style of" is an original creation that emulates a specific musical genre or style associated with a specific artist or song, but without actually reproducing a pre-existing song. For example, a song "in the style of" might be written and produced in a way that recalls the style of a famous band or artist, such as the Beatles or Elvis Presley, without using any of their existing songs. This can be especially useful if you want to create a specific atmosphere, such as a retro or Western-style setting.
In either case, using a reinterpretation or song "in the style of" can offer new emotional associations with the images in the video, creating a more unique and memorable experience for the viewer.
In addition, using these options can also avoid potential copyright issues, as these are original creations and not reproductions of pre-existing songs.
